The liquid breakfast to get you through whatever the day throws your way!
We always hear that breakfast is the most important meal of the day! But why?
When we wake up our bodies are pretty much running on empty. We haven’t eaten for an extended period of time and essentially we have fasted for the hours that we have been asleep, not a bad thing! With our bodies running on “empty” we can’t possibly perform to our highest potential. If we are lacking the fuel that our body needs to operate, both our physical and cognitive abilities will be greatly restricted.
Shake up your wake up with this energizing and fueling smoothie! This smoothie not only provides the energy needed to kick-start your day, but it is an important source of nutrients that will help repair your muscles and provide your with the fuel you need to feed your body to operate and function properly.
Ingredients
½ cup of Almond milk
1 Banana
¼ cup of almonds
3-4 Pitted Dates
1 scoop of Protein powder (we used vanilla)
What are the ingredients good for and how will they fuel your morning?
Banana – is rich in potassium. Potassium is necessary for good nerve and muscle function. The Vitamin C present in bananas boosts your immune system and cell health and improves the absorption of other nutrients, ensuring you get the most out of the foods you consume.
Almonds - Almonds have very high levels of protein, and contain energy-boosting manganese and copper, which limit the free radicals that can hinder mitochondria. Mitochondria, are the powerhouse of our cells. They are responsible for generating the energy required by our cells to do their jobs and function correctly.
Protein powder – when we complete physical activities, muscle tissues are torn and must be rebuilt for muscle development. Protein is the building block for our muscles and is required to correctly heal these micro-tears. In the form of powder, protein is broken down much quicker and therefore enters the blood stream much faster. Thus speeding up the ability of our muscles to recover.
Pitted dates – are loaded with fibre primarily insoluble fibre that binds to fat and cholesterol and carries it out of the body This reduces triglyceride levels and lowers the risk of hardening of the arteries and heart attack.
